Tartan Twists at The Met Ball

7 May

The fashion pack was out in force at the Met Ball on Monday night highlighting trends we will be living with for several seasons to come. The theme of the event Punk: Chaos to Couture gave plenty of scope for creativity and designs ran the gamut from street-style punk to over-the-top diva. We were delighted to note that tartan was a major trend on the night. Below are our favourite tartan looks

Chanel’s Métiers d’Arts Collection Unveiled at Linlithgow Palace

12 Dec

Wrapped in Chanel blankets, sipping whisky and ginger cocktails, the fashion press, buyers from around the globe, and associated muses descended in a flurry of limousines and frost on the faded grandeur of Linlithgow Palace last week to see Karl Lagerfeld put Scotland on the global fashion map.

Chanel-Linlithgow-Palace-Scotland

Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, was handpicked by Lagerfeld for his pre-season Chanel Métiers d’Arts Show, a peripatetic Show, designed to celebrate countries which had an influence on Coco Chanel, founder of the fashion House. Paris- Edimbourg, the tenth annual show, was arguably the most spectacular of the series. The stunning 15th century palace was the perfect setting to unveil the collection, which had a strong Renaissance feel and featured a fabulous array of tartans and knitwear. Taking inspiration from Renaissance page boys, 18th century Highland soldiers and ethereal Winter Queens, the Show succeeded on many levels, none more so than in the skilled artistry which is the signature of Chanel.

At Tartan Twist, we’ve long been inspired by Mary Queen of Scots. Our Mary Queen of Scots Pomander Pendant, which comes on a range of tartans, would not have been out of place at the Chanel show last week. It is inspired by the Queen’s pomander on display at Holyrood Palace. The Queen’s traditional pomander would have held fragrant herbs, ours opens to reveal six little secret photographs.

Meet our sister!

27 Nov

We’d like to present to you Tartan Twist’s sister brand, LILY BLANCHE. Inspired by our grandmother who was born in the early 1900s, her life was extraordinary. At a young age she travelled for six weeks, with four small children, to join her husband in India. She witnessed the last days of the Raj and the rise of Gandhi before returning to Britain in the 1930s.

The pieces in this collection are reminiscent of a glamourous, romantic age, while retaining a contemporary feel. They are guaranteed to surprise and delight you with their intricate design and hidden secrets!

As a gesture of good will this Christmas, we’re giving you 15% off all LILY BLANCHE jewellery until 30th of November! Simply add VIP15 at the checkout to claim your discount!

And don’t forget, we have a little treat from Tartan Twist too: Until 10th December we’re offering a FREE pair of Red Rose earrings plus FREE UK delivery on all orders over £30!

Kate’s got “it”!

3 Aug

If fashion were a sport in this year’s Olympics, Kate would be bagging gold for Team GB! After topping Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed List for the third year in a row, we’ve been having fun looking at some of her best fashion moments of 2012!

The one that stands out for us is when The Countess of Strathearn, as she’s known in Scotland, became a member of our Tartan Army at the Queen’s Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant in June. Kate was lauded for her fashion choice (yet again) as she broke up her long-sleeved strikingly scarlet Alexander McQueen gown with a scarf made of Strathearn tartan.

Whatever “it” is, Kate certainly has it, and in abundance! We’re excited to see how she’ll inject a bit of tartan into her outfits in the future. One of our Pomander necklaces on Cameron tartan perhaps?! Just a thought…

Butterfly & Flower WINNERS!

11 Jul

Congratulations to Wendy Dishington, Barbara Davies and Liz Ross-Bartell, who were selected out of a record number of entrants to be the three winners of our Butterfly and Flower competition. These three lucky ladies, who named correctly answer b, the thistle as the national flower of Scotland, will receive one beautiful Butterfly and one fabulous Flower pendant each.

Our Butterfly and Flower pendants come on tartan or plain back satin ribbons. The pendants are made by fusing silver and gold oxides within layers of glass to give a tartan effect. Each one is individually made, which we hope will make our winners feel extra special.

We’d like to thank everyone else who took part in the competition and for making it so much fun for us here in the office. We hold regular e-letter competitions, so tell all your friends to sign up to receive all the latest Tartan Twist special offers and competition details.
